Pre-School
In collaboration with Neighborhood House Association, our program design is base don Head Start Performance Standards. The Preschool Program curriculum is designed to provide children with a high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experience. Preschool and kindergarten teachers collaborate to ensure that preschool students are prepared for kindergarten and that each child’s transition is smooth
Elementary K-3
Our elementary curriculum is aligned with the California State Standards. Our balanced literacy program contains phonemic awareness and phonics instruction: Guided, Shared and Independent Reading, Shared and Independent Writing and Read Aloud.
The Literacy instructional programs used are Open Court, The Wright Group and Rigby. Our math programs are Harcourt and Everyday Mathematics. The McGill teaching staff strives to create a safe and positive learning environment where children can become confident, independent and life long learners.
Family Participation
McGill prides itself in the family feeling it delivers. With a dedicated staff, we provide a nurturing but challenging environment, sensitive to the dynamics and the needs of our families. We include our families by offering several events throughout the school year in which family members are encouraged to participate. We have Monthly Awards Assemblies. Our Core Value Assembly teaches our students the importance of treating others the way they want to be treated. On Family Fridays, we invite the family members to spend time reading in their children’s classroom. McGill has a reputation for wonderful parent support, whether it involves serving on committees, volunteering, assisting with field trips or just sharing with each other the daily occurrences of life at McGill.
Family Support
Our staff supports and assists families by assessing their strengths and needs and providing services and resources to the families in reaching their goals. The Family Service Staff is the liaison between the school, the family and the community.
Technology
All children at McGill are introduced to the use of computers to support language development, literacy and math skills. These learned computer skills encourage exploration, develop hand-eye coordination and place the students on the road to proficiency.
