Our second grade students will be taking the (Gifted and Talented Education) GATE test on Tuesday, May 29th. This test is an assessment which identifies students who possess a capacity for excellence far beyond that of their peers. It will only be given on May 29th. There are no make-up dates. Our last Family Thursday was held on Thursday, May 3rd. Family Thursday is a special occasion when family members are invited to go into their child’s classroom and read to their child for one half hour. Our April awards assembly was held on Friday, April 27th. Students were recognized for academic excellences as well as improvement in their academics or behavior.
Each month, teachers focus on teaching one of McGill’s Core Values. During the months of April, students learned about and practiced Cooperation. One student from each class receives a Core Value tee shirt. During the month of May, students will learn the Core Value, Empathy.
The Parent Committees meets the second Thursday of each month. The Parent Committee and PAC planned and presented a beautiful Cinco de Mayo celebration. Over 150 family and friends attended. A special Thank You to the Parent Committee.
Our Head Start pre-kindergarden students are beginning the transition into kindergarten. In the coming weeks, the pre-kindergarden students will also attend assemblies, visit kindergarten classrooms, and have snacks with the kindergarten students. These activities help the students make a smooth transition from Head Start to Kindergarten
