Principal’s Corner

Dear Parents,

January was a very busy and exciting month.  The time just seemed to fly by.  During the month of  February expect the excitement to continue as we  celebrate  Black History month.    Our Black History celebration will be February 29th  at 5:30p.m.  On February 16th  elementary classes will celebrate the 100th day of school by making posters which will be displayed in the auditorium.  Feb. the 17th and  20th  are President’s Holidays, school will be closed.  On February 28th  all elementary classes will be going to Sea World.  We look forward to a very exciting month.

Family Friday

Our February  Family Thursday will be held on Thursday,  February  2nd .  It  is a special occasion when family members are invited to go into their child’s classroom and read to their child for one half hour.  After the reading session, families are invited to meet with the principal for a half hour of coffee and conversation about the student’s classroom and the progress of the  school.  I hope to see you at our next Family Thursday/Principal Coffee on February 2nd  at 8:15a.m.

Awards Assembly

Our January awards assembly was held on Thursday,  January  26th .  Students were recognized for academic excellences as well as improvement in their academics or behavior.

Core Values Assembly

Each month, teachers focus on teaching one of McGill’s Core Values.  During the month of January, students learned about and practiced Self Control.  One student from each class received a Self Control tee shirt.  During the month of  February, students will learn the Core Value, Honesty.

Late Students

Late students must come to the front office for a late slip.  Please do not enter the classroom without a late slip.  School starts at 8:15a.m. The parent gate on 30th street is locked at 8:15a.m.  If  you arrive after 8:15a.m,  you must come in through the front office.

Uniforms

The uniform policy was enacted by parents, so that all students would wear the same clothing.  Please help us enforce the uniform policy by being sure that your child has a clean uniform to wear each day.  Although girls are allowed to wear boots the boots must be black, or brown.  Girls are not allowed to wear pink, or other colorful boots or stockings.

Pre-School Transition Night

We will be presenting a Pre-school transition Night on Thursday, February 23rd at 5:30p.m. in the auditorium. Parents will meet the Kindergarten teachers, learn what is expected of a new kindergarten student and have an opportunity to ask questions.   Parent will be allowed to visit a kindergarten classroom.  Please come and invite a friend who has a kindergarten age child.
