Should McGill Require Uniforms?

McGill has a uniform policy, where all students are required to dress in a school uniform. While we believe uniforms have some educational value, they also have some drawbacks.

Many families struggle to send their students in their uniforms on a daily basis, and much staff time is spent trying to enforce the policy, with only partial success.

The School is considering dropping our uniform requirement for the 2024-25 school year, and focusing on other issues we think are more central to students' academic success and personal wellbeing.

If we suspend the uniform requirement, we would still provide a school shirt to every student, as well as require safe and school-appropriate clothing, just as we do now on Free Dress days.
